The frame is the structural backbone of any landing net. It takes the load when a double-figure carp hits the mesh, and it determines which swim sizes and bank configurations your customers can fish. For B2B buyers, the frame type also drives shipping volume, assembly cost, and retail price positioning.

Triangular frames dominate the European carp market for one reason: they rest flat on the bank, keeping the mesh opening accessible and the fish safely contained while the angler prepares for weighing or unhooking.
As a distributor, the triangular net is your volume SKU. The question is whether your factory is using extruded aluminum, drawn aluminium, or , on the cheap end , hollow steel tube that rusts from the inside after one season.
Oval and spoon frames are growing fast in the specimen carp segment. They glide through the water with less resistance, which matters when you're netting a 40lb+ fish that's already stressed.
The trade-off is higher landed cost and a smaller addressable market. If your retail partners serve specimen anglers, this is the margin opportunity. If they serve the weekend club-angler, stick with triangular.
Collapsible round frames are a niche you should know about. Roving anglers who carry everything in a single rucksack want a net that packs to the size of a dinner plate.
The frame uses a spring-steel or segmented aluminium design that folds into a pouch. Shipping volume per 40HQ container is roughly double that of fixed-frame nets. The per-unit wholesale margin is thinner, but velocity is higher.
Whichever frame type you choose, the critical spec is the spreader block material. The plastic corner joint where the frame arms meet the handle socket takes the highest stress. Specify virgin ABS or glass-filled nylon.
Avoid generic polypropylene , it creeps under load and the spreader holes elongate after about 50 uses. Your end customer will feel that as a "wobbly" net long before it breaks.
Mesh materials: what the denier number doesn't tell you
Mesh is where most landing net OEM conversations go wrong. Buyers ask for "nylon mesh" or "210D mesh" and consider it done. Neither of those is a complete specification. Here's what actually determines durability, fish safety, and your return rate.

Knotless construction is non-negotiable for carp. A carp's protective slime coat is its first defence against infection. Knotted mesh scrapes that coating off at every contact point.
Most European markets have moved beyond knotted landing nets for carp, but some factories still offer them as a cost-saver. Refuse them. The retail complaints alone will erase the marginal savings.
Coated mesh is the premium play. A PVC or soft-rubber dip coating on knotless nylon adds two things: reduced friction against the fish, and significantly higher tear resistance. The coating adds about €0.50-0.80 per mesh at factory gate.
At retail, a coated-mesh net commands €10-15 more. If your target retailers stock specimen or match-grade gear, spec the coating.
Mesh depth matters for container planning. A standard carp landing net mesh depth is 60-90 cm. Deeper mesh (100-120 cm) is better for big fish but increases folded package height by roughly 30%, which reduces your 40HQ container capacity.
Run the numbers before you decide: 90 cm is the volume-optimised sweet spot for most markets.
Colour options drive warehouse complexity. Olive and green are the default. Khaki and camo sell well in France and Germany. Black is gaining share in the UK.
If you're planning three colour SKUs per mesh type, that's three times the bin location space. For a first order, standardise on one or two colours and validate the market before expanding.
Key specifications that define your landing net
Beyond the frame and mesh, these are the specs that experienced distributors put on their OEM order sheets. Each one has a measurable impact on returns, shipping, or margin.
Handle system
Three handle configurations dominate the European carp market:
- Telescopic , extends from ~80 cm to ~250-300 cm. Most popular in the UK. Cost per handle: €4-8. Downside: sand and grit jam the locking collars over time. Specify stainless steel locking collars, not chrome-plated steel.
- Three-piece (take-apart) , each section 80-100 cm. Dominates the French and German markets. Cheaper to replace a single damaged section. Better for rough bank conditions. Downside: the ferrule joint is a potential weak point. Specify anodised aluminium ferrules with a minimum overlap of 5 cm.
- One-piece fixed , full length, no breakdown. Used mostly in match fishing and at the budget end of the carp category. Cheap (€2-4), but freight cost per unit is punishing. Not recommended for bulk import unless your pricing targets the sub-€25 retail bracket.

Handle material
Every factory offers "aluminium handles." The question is wall thickness and alloy. 6061 aluminium with 1.0 mm wall thickness is the entry point. 1.2 mm is the durability sweet spot for carp landing nets expected to see heavy use.
Carbon-fibre handles add €20-30 at retail and appeal to the mobile-angler segment, but they are harder to warranty , carbon can fail catastrophically without visible warning.
If you stock carbon handles, your insurance against breakage is a documented load-test spec from the factory (minimum 15 kg lateral load at full extension).
Head-to-handle connection
Most triangular nets use a threaded plastic spreader block with a metal insert.
The metal insert is critical: a plastic-only thread strips after about 30-40 assembly cycles (retail customers trying the net in the shop, then assembling and disassembling on the bank).
Specify brass or stainless steel threaded inserts moulded into the spreader block. The cost add is about €0.30 per unit. The first retailer who strips a plastic-only thread will cost you the goodwill of an entire account.
Net bag attachment
The mesh attaches to the frame via a sleeve or quick-release clips. Sleeve attachment is cheaper to manufacture and standard on mid-range nets.
Quick-release clips are growing in popularity because they let the angler swap mesh depths or replace a torn bag without buying a whole new net.

Bulk procurement checklist for importers and distributors
Before you sign the purchase order, confirm these seven items with your factory. Missing any one of them can turn a profitable container into a clearance-bargain problem.
Spread the frame load test results in writing. Ask for the factory's test protocol for triangular frames: a static load of 8 kg suspended from the centre of the spreader block for 24 hours.
Any permanent deformation over 3 mm is a fail. If the factory can't provide written results, ask them to run a batch sample test before production.
Mesh tear strength on coated vs uncoated. Coating adds tear resistance by roughly 40-60%, but only if it penetrates the weave rather than sitting on the surface. Ask for a cross-section photo of the coated mesh.
If the coating layer is visibly separate from the yarn, the abrasion resistance is compromised.
Handle extension cycle test. For telescopic handles — the minimum spec is 1,000 extension-retraction cycles without jamming. For three-piece handles, 500 assembly-disassembly cycles at the ferrule joint. Get the video, not just the number.
UV stability for the spreader block. A landing net sits on a sunny bank for years. Standard ABS degrades and becomes brittle after 18 months of UV exposure. Either specify UV-stabilised ABS or glass-filled nylon, and request the factory's accelerated UV test data (ISO 4892).
Corrosion protection on handle locking collars. Chrome plating on low-cost telescopic handles flakes off within one season of saltwater or brackish exposure. If your customers fish near the coast, specify stainless steel collars or anodised aluminium.
The cost delta is about €0.60 per unit. The delta in warranty claims is much larger.
Flat-pack packaging dimensions for shipping optimisation. A triangular landing net with folding arms can reduce your shipping volume by 35-40% compared to a fixed-frame model.
Run a 40HQ container calculation , if folding arms allow you to fit an extra 600 units per container, the €1.20 per-unit cost premium is easily justified.
MOQ per SKU vs per design. This is the same trap as with bivvies. The factory says "300 units." What they mean is 300 per colour per size.
If you want three handle options × two colours, that's 1,800 units , not 300. Clarify in writing whether MOQ is per SKU or per design before the price quote lands.
A well-specified landing net order is one where you can predict the return rate before the container ships. For mid-range triangular nets with telescopic handles and coated knotless mesh, an acceptable annual return rate is under 2.5%. If the factory can't commit to that, keep negotiating , or walk.
